What do you think about teaching or reinforcing your teaching by using videos? Is it very difficult to get the infrastructure so as to do it in a school? Are schools willing to invest money on technology so as to make your classes more interactive, motivating and meaningful? Waiting for your posts. Best regards, Marcela.

  1. Hi everybody!
First of all I think those videos are very useful even for us, specially fo us because we have a little problem with pronunciation and intonation, am I right? Always native pronunciation can be very useful. Anyway, the real problem here is the available infras-tructure. Schools are not so equipped as to have multimedia in every classroom. By

  2. Hi!!!
Well I think these are good instrument to reinforcing the students but is true that it is very difficult to use in class because the school do not have the tool for it. However I think this videos we use for homeworks for the students for example we teach them in way they understand the videos because I think this videos are dificult for elementary and high school. Also I think this videos are good for us to have more imagination in our class, we can think in ideas for our students and that way our class could be more interactive.

  3. Hey everybody!

Nowadays it is very common giving emphasis to TIC's. Teachers and Students are users of many of the most known websites and even DVDs are seen as "the ultimate resource" in schools where technology is not as advanced as it is in others. Honestly, it has advantages and disadvantages. Today, the fact that learners have playstation, internet access, or whatever, is common... but kids get bored easily and though videos are very significant, sooner or later students loose interest, because there's always something new.

In my opinion, classes On Line, Videos, and all that stuff are good material to motivate students, but they're not all!! A very educative video could be trashy if the teacher doesn't manage the topic, or the PC...etc...now, another thing is how expensive is keeping appliances to get these pieces of information...and I disagree with Vepaz, when says that videos encourage imagination. They're not because a video only stimulates your eyes... in a video you cannot touch or feel things...in that case a book is more recomendable in my opinion. Again it all depends on the teacher.

  4. Hi everyone:

I add myself to the idea of using multimedia files to do a class.
Certainly, schools have not too much money to improve English department ideas, as dvd players, films or something useful. (Most of the cases is what they say)
I enjoyed two of those videos. One with the English subtle. And the other of prepositions...
Personally, I think it was an excellent idea to use cartoons as "Erase una vez el hombre" to express things as prepositions.
(and in a way is a manner to blame us about how bad our second language really is)

  5. whoaaa!
    good topic to talk about
I think that it would be interesting and funny for children if we use new material such as videos explaining the contents that we want them to learn.
and also thinking about it you could ask upper grade students to do a class in video and mark them for it and use the video for lower grade classes; two birds in one shot :D

anyway we have to be aware that there are some disadvantages using this method, for example we cannot correct pronunciation or grammar mistakesinmediatly if the children understood the wrong way.

  6. I think that to teach using videos is a good manner to do a class interactive, but unfortately the mayority of schools don`t have the infraestructure to work with these resources and for this reason as teachers have to satisfy using other kind of methodology to teach or used the creativity.
On the other hand, I think about teaching through videos help specially to develop the visual and pronunciation part.
As a conclusion, I think will be very difficult to obtain these resources in all or the mayority schools in Chile while the english idiom doesn`t be to take account with the importance that should has.

  7. Hello Everyone!

First of all I think videos and in general technological resources are interesting, modern and so on, but I think it would be helpful for adolescents rather than children, because on my opinion it would be better to work with the senses, when you are working with children, in order to stimulate imagination, and obviously to try new things. It is true that generations have changed, but children will be always children, and you can catch their attention in several ways, but with adolescents or adulst is different because, not everything works.

Now, according to schools, well, in private schools it is known the administrators do anything to increase the level of their students because in that way the school is considered in a better way by the society and people that are related to Education. On the contrary on semi-private schools the story is different, because there are not many headmasters interested on their students needs so they don't invest on new resources.
Now in the case of public schools, well we had no resources until one or two years ago, when the ministry launched a proyect in which public schools will receive one notebook and a slide projector per course from first to third of primary school. This is a very good idea, but in some schools these equipments are not used in the way the should be, so it's a sort of waste anyway.
It is sad, but we're in Chile and these things will always happen if we don't change our society.

    Best Regards.

  9. I agree with Laura, It´s a good way to teach our students using videos but not all schools have this kind of resources, however, it is good manner to capture the attention of our students and do more insteresting the classes. Another form to improve our class could be our students perform parts of a movie or sing songs, etc.
There are many forms to be a different class and develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills in our students, not only with a video.

  10. HI...
WELL I THINK THAT VIDEOS ARE GREAT...AND NOT ONLY FOR CHILDREN BUT ALSO FOR ADULTS, AS RENE SAID, WE HAVE TO USE AS MUCH RESOURCES AS WE CAN FOR TEACHING THE TARGET LANGUAGE TO OUR STUDENTS, BUT THE PROBLEM IS WHEN SCHOOLS DON'T HAVE THESE KIND OF RESOURCES...BUT IF WE ARE CREATIVE AND IMAGINATIVE WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE WANT...

  11. It’s a very good idea apply technology to our classes, student appreciate that. As some of you know I’m working in a school and I try to incorporate it all the time, but it’s not so easy planning something interesting or didactic for different reasons:

First of all some teachers don’t like the idea of been creative, they just prefer the easiest way the old fashion one, read the text, answer the activities and they don’t support your idea of using other methods like: pp’s and less videos. Almost them have the same speech “I taught a lot of generation before and they learnt very well so It’s not necessary to use other ways” obviously this is transmitted to the head teacher, and he won’t invest money if it’s not strictly necessary, so you are the only one with different thoughts.

The head teacher of my school doesn’t want to invest money in this kind of activities, I think because is not his priority, in this school students study technical careers, so they just want to finish school and enter to work immediately, so he prefer to invest in other machinery according to the careers.

I think they know how important is English in nowadays but if we can teach in “cheaper way” it would be better for them.

  12. Hi!
I consider that the real problem lies not in the technology that we have but in the number of students that we have per classroom. Many teachers arguing about the lack of computers or labs into schools but in my experience I have realized that although they have them, they don´t use the resources, simply because they are not used to develop a class includying the technology that they could.
As future teachers we can not be conformist with the way in which we teach. Student of all ages are getting used to play, work, write and make everything through the computer, so what can we do? We must internalize technologies, videos, internet, youtube and all the technology´s stuff that we could.
    Have a nice weekend...

  13. Those videos are really interesting, and they are very useful to use with our students, because it usually catches the attention of them, of course if we have the appropriate technology at schools. But, we can do something if that is not our case. We can bring a notebook and speakers to show these videos to our students, or also, in the case of the first video, we can use some flashcards to teach the alphabet.

  14. I think that as a Teachers we have to improve our methodology in one of the 21th century. For example, last year a professor told me that nowadays we have schools of the 19th century, Teachers of the 20th century and students of the 21th century.

We should apply the technology to them, If you can noticed, they are living with objects such as mp4. computers, Cellphones, etc. Why it would be consider something strange? they are getting involved 24/7 with the "new artefacts". The problems could be the money, but if the Principal decides to earn less money, the students maybe will have a LCD Reader and all those kind of stuffs :P

  15. In my opinion , these kind of videos are an useful tool to learn a second language, I think is a good idea to use the technology to improve the pronunciation and grammar, this system is very motivated and interactive and the best part is that you don´t need a lot of money, just your computer and the need to learn english.
